Orioles, Hardy finalize extension

Baltimore, MD (Sports Network) – The Baltimore Orioles announced Monday they have signed shortstop J.J. Hardy to a three-year contract extension, which will keep him with the club through 2014.

Financial terms of the deal were not announced, but the Baltimore Sun reported over the weekend that it is worth between $22 and $22.5 million.

The Orioles acquired Hardy from the Minnesota Twins in the offseason, and he has hit .278 with 13 home runs and 34 RBI in 65 games this year. The seven- year veteran has struggled with injuries in recent seasons, and missed a month earlier this year with an oblique strain.

An All-Star with Milwaukee in 2007, Hardy is a lifetime .264 hitter with 94 homers and 337 RBI.
