It’s time to kick back in the recliner and throw out some more DEEP THOUGHTS:
I’ll give Arkansas Athletic Director Jeff Long credit for having the guts to fire head coach Bobby Petrino. I never thought Long would can Petrino because of all the success the Razorbacks had during his tenure…and oh yeah, all of the money Petrino brought in too. But while folks slap Long on the back for doing “The Right Thing” I can’t help but think that part of the reason old Bobby got run out of Fayetteville was that he gave his 25 year old hottie a gig making $50,000 a year over almost 160 other applicants while the two were still playing slap and tickle. That smells like a lawsuit waiting to happen. So if you boot the dude who did the hiring once you found out it might be tougher for someone to sue the pants off of the university? Yep, I learned that one watching Matlock.
Help me out on this one…why are the comments by Denver wide-out Demaryius Thomas about his former quarterback Tim Tebow so controversial? Last time I checked, wide receivers in the NFL want the ball thrown to them. Thomas is looking around the NFL, seeing quarterback’s chucking the rock all over the field. Then Thomas looks at his QB and he sees a fullback who doesn’t know where is the ball is going when he lets it go. Name me any receiver in the league that would rather have Tim Tebow as his quarterback over Peyton Manning and we’ll need to drug test him.
Ray Allen and Dwayne Wade have both made comments that NBA players should get paid to play in the Olympics. Wade later backpedaled faster than Derrell Revis in coverage. Look, I get what those guys are saying to a point. Everyone is making dough off the athletes at the Olympics except the athletes. But to me, this is the Olympics! You are suppose to be playing for your country, not a paycheck. What about showing a little of this thing called patriotism? Do you hear a pole vaulter whining about getting paid? How about a synchronized swimmer? Bottom line, when dudes making eight figures dribbling and shooting a basketball say they should get some green to play in the Olympics, they just come off as greedy and self-absorbed.
Maybe it’s just me but I think if Oklahoma St. quarterback Brandon Weeden was 23 years old instead of pushing 30, we’d be talking about Weeden being the third quarterback taken in the NFL Draft and not Ryan Tannehill of Texas A&M. I know it depends on where you land but I have a feeling that Weeden will end up being better than Tannehill.
