Dodgers relieve hitting coach of duties

San Francisco, CA (Sports Network) – The Los Angeles Dodgers have relieved hitting coach Jeff Pentland of his duties. Dave Hansen will take over on an interim basis for the remainder of the season.

The 64-year-old Pentland had been the Dodgers “hitting instructor” behind then-hitting coach Don Mattingly from 2008 to 2010 before assuming his current role this season.

Heading into Wednesday’s contest with the San Francisco Giants, Los Angeles was hitting just .250 as a team and ranked second to last in the National League in scoring, managing a mere 352 runs on the year.

Only the San Diego Padres and Washington Nationals have been shutout more than the 10 times the Dodgers have been blanked.
